Parrottsville, Tennessee - 3rd oldest city in Tennessee

Parrottsville, TN, is a small town nestled in the Clear Creek Valley. It is located on Highway 321 between Newport and Greenville about 35 miles from Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

The residents of Parrottsville are a proud and friendly people. Many families have lived here for generations. Newcomers are drawn by its rolling hills and pastoral charm, beautiful views of the Appalachian Mountains, Smoky Mountain National Park, and the Cherokee National Forest of North Carolina.

Old Post Office, Historical Marker #5 - est. 1836 First Postmaster Samuel Hughes. Rural Routes started in 1903. Small white frame structure was built in 1936.

Parrottsville United Methodist Church - # 7 ca 1871 formerly the site of the Roadman Mansion, which had been purchased by Parrottsville citizens for a "subscription" school and later purchased by the Methodist Episcopal Church. Present structure was built on the old house foundation in 1927.

Parrott-LaRue-Meyers Memorial Park

Swaggerty Fort - attributed to James Swaggerty ca. 1787, this cantilevered structure was built over a spring for protection from hostile Indians. One of only 2 original blockhouses remaining in Tennessee (National Register). Drawing is by local artist, Joan Beaver.
